The BetterBricks Awards recognize architects, engineers, developers, building owners, building operators, service providers, facility managers, emerging leaders or other building professionals for their support, use and design of sustainable, high performance, commercial buildings with a special emphasis on energy efficiency in the Northwest. BetterBricks winners will be awarded in multiple categories, focusing on the people behind the best projects in the Northwest.


Fifth Annual Portland BetterBricks Awards

Keynote Speaker: Nancy Floyd, Founder and Managing Director of Nth Power
Nancy Floyd is founder and managing director of Nth Power, one of the first venture capital firms to specialize in new energy technology. With $400 million under management, Nth Power has invested in 42 companies, including the market leaders in energy efficiency, renewable energy, clean transportation and smart grid. A national figure in the energy policy debate, Nancy just testified in Congress in September before the House Select Committee on Energy Independence and Global Warming. Nancy currently serves on the boards of Thetus and Serveron (Portland, Ore.), Imperium Renewables and Propel Biofuels (Seattle), Spectrasensors (L.A.) and Smartsynch (Jackson, Miss.). She is also on the boards of the American Council on Renewable Energy, Portland Family of Funds (a community investment bank pioneering triple bottom line real estate investment), and the Center for Resource Solutions. She was recently appointed by Governor Kulongoski to the Oregon Economic and Community Development Commission.

Fourth Annual Idaho BetterBricks Awards

When: Wednesday, October 24th

(held in conjunction with the Idaho Energy and Green Buildings Conference)
Keynote Speaker: Greg Franta, FAIA, Principal Architect and Team Leader for Rocky Mountain Institute (RMI) Built Environment Team
The title of Greg's presentation is "Cooling the Warming". Since the early 1970s, Greg has pioneered environmentally sustainable architecture around the world. From 1981 to 2005, Greg led ENSAR Group in providing services to more than 800 energy efficient and environmentally sound projects, including offices, laboratories, educational buildings, health facilities, libraries and homes (including the White House). Greg has served on the National Board of Directors for the American Institute of Architects and is a co-founder (past Chairman) of the AIA Committee on the Environment. Greg is currently chairman of the Sustainable Buildings Industry Council and he participated in the development of the U.S. Green Building Council's LEED program.
